The blessing and inauguration of the first Motor Vehicle Inspection Center (MVIC) and Land Transportation District Office for Region 4A or CALABARZON was held at Barangay San Benito, Alaminos, Laguna.
The Land Transportation Office will celebrate its centennial from April 23-27, 2012.
Land Transportation Office Undersecretary Virginia Torres has outlined several projects to streamline its services and operations, she said at Alaminos, Laguna, on April 18.
Among the LTO’s priority programs under the year-long celebration include the review of the motor vehicle registration process, improvement of the agency’s frontline services, reduction of vulnerable areas to corruption, improvement of emission facilities with high technology equipments, and new buildings that could cater the need of all drivers and corporate sectors who would seek LTO services.
On April 18, 2012, the blessing and inauguration of the first Motor Vehicle Inspection Center (MVIC) and Land Transportation District Office for Region 4A or CALABARZON was held at Barangay San Benito, Alaminos, Laguna. LTO showcased an actual bus inspection using the newest emission testing technology. The complete project at Alaminos is worth Php 90 million, according to Torres.
This new facility cost P90 million.

The LTO calls the centennial project The ROAD Less Traveled, which kicked off during the agency’s regional directors’ conference last year. ROAD stands for Reform, Organization and Advocacy Development.
Torres said pushing for reforms on its 100th year is the best time for the agency to “rewrite” its history. It’s one of the government offices plagued with controversy and corruption, but she hopes everything will be achieved with the help of all private citizens, not just LTO employees.
Torres added that these projects will transform the LTO into a world-class agency responsive to the needs of the times. The new facility aims to reduce of number of accidents and injuries caused by vehicle mechanical defects and unsafe and/or below standard car accessories. It will also work towards the reduction of air pollution and compliance with the harmonization of vehicle inspection and standards. All LTO’s projects for its centennial are geared to give more and better services to the Filipino people, in line with President Aquino’s slogan “Tuwid na Daan.”

Many people have expressed disappointment in the different sites of the LTO. Driver’s license renewal in other countries is so simple. In the US, there is a computerized exam, no red tape, prompt processing, and the new license is released on the same day. Hopefully the LTO can achieve the same efficiency in the Philippines.
